Inner Beauty Is… with Sara Crampton

Sara Crampton is without a doubt one of the pioneers of the style blogging industry in Australia. Her inspiring take on minimalism has elevated her blog, Harper & Harley, to incredible heights.

And now, this Australian-born beauty has another business under her belt, The UNDONE – a curated shopping site dedicated to the effortless minimalist in us all…

You have managed to find the balance of letting people into your world without giving everything away, has that been easy to do and do people ask for more?

Something that is very sacred to me is my privacy and the privacy of the people that I love. I think what’s different with my blog is that when I started posting 10 years ago, it was simply because I loved fashion, not because I wanted fame or followers. My blog never had the intention of what it has become and I’ve had to adapt to putting my face and personality forward.

I also greatly appreciate everyone that has followed my blog over the years and I like being able to positively affect their style journeys and instill confidence in their approach to getting dressed.

So striking that balance of being personal without being too personal has always remained constant – it comes naturally to me and is what my followers expect.

You were one of the first fashion influencers in Australia, how have you seen the industry evolve and do you think it’s for the better or worse?

I wholeheartedly believe the fashion industry has changed for the better through the evolution of technology and social platforms. New brands starting out now have the ability to reach customers all over the world and create a strong and loyal community. Everyone is playing the exact same game and watching brands be innovative and stand out in this space is really inspiring.

How do you feel you have evolved as a businesswoman since launching The UNDONE?

Building brands and the community that surrounds them is something I’ve always been passionate about, but since launching The UNDONE I’ve learnt it’s also about the internal brand, culture and the team behind the scenes that is equally important.

Starting a new business can be intimidating, what piece of advice to you have for people either considering starting a business or for those who have just started?

It has been the toughest thing I have ever done and I don’t think there Is any escaping this. You need to passionately love what you’re doing, as this will be what saves you when you want to give up – and no doubt there will be a moment when you truly want to walk away. Don’t do it for the money, do it because life is too short not to give it a try.

What does inner beauty mean to you?

Inner beauty to me means loving and respecting yourself.

Can you give us an example of a time you’ve listened to your gut instinct?

My gut and sheer determination has led me on an amazing path. Moving to Sydney on my own at 21, quitting my job, blogging full-time, starting a new business… the last decade has been quite a journey.

What do you do to get your daily GLOW on?

I have GLOW on my desk at work and love to have a spoonful stirred into a glass of cold water at least twice a day. It’s my afternoon pick-me-up and a great alternative to my second piccolo – which I really shouldn’t have!

I feel like a ninja when I… have gone to gym, taken my dogs to the park and done the grocery shopping all before midday on a Saturday.

Just because… people tell you it’s not going to work, doesn’t mean you can’t… prove them wrong.
